The Process of Making Animation

Animation takes a large amount of rigorous planning before the ink ever hits the page. Unlike live-action film where a director can film many takes of the same scene and choose which he likes better, in animation a scene can take a team of animators weeks to create. Therefore, poor planning can be very expensive. Extensive time is taken in preproduction so that time and resources are not wasted during production. This also results in less editing work than is necessary in live-action film.

In this section of the site I will explain the process of making animation that was common in the early 1908s, just before computer animation software changed the way the majority of the industry produced and edited its animation.
